How to Apply for Financial Aid

Step 1: Complete the FAFSA

To apply for federal and state financial aid at MGCC, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online.

  • Where to Apply: Visit studentaid.gov.
  • MGCC School Code: 004996 (Required to send your data to MGCC).
  • When to Apply: The FAFSA opens October 1 for the upcoming academic year. Apply as early as possible—funding for certain grants is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Step 2: Complete Your SIS To-Do List

After MGCC receives your FAFSA, you may need to submit additional documentation or verification forms.

How to Access Your To-Do List:

  1. Log in to myMGCC and select the SIS (Student Information System) tile.
  2. Select Student Center.
  3. Locate the To-Do List on the right side of your screen. Click each item to view instructions and required forms.

Step 3: View Your Financial Aid Offer

Once your FAFSA and all required To-Do List items are processed, your financial aid award will be posted in your student portal.

How to View Your Offer:

  1. Log in to myMGCC, then SIS, then Student Center.
  2. Select View Financial Aid.
  3. Select the desired Aid Year.

⚠️ Important Payment Deadline Warning

You must complete your FAFSA, submit all required To-Do List documents, and ensure you have sufficient aid or payment arrangements in place before the tuition payment deadline (see the MGCC Academic Calendar). Students without secured funding by the deadline may be dropped from their classes.
