1. MGCC Academic Advising (For College Students)
MGCC Academic Advisors work one-on-one with enrolled and prospective college students to provide confidential academic guidance, course scheduling, and degree planning.
How Advisors Help You:
- Course Selection & Registration: Choose the right courses for your degree, diploma, or certificate program.
- Academic & Career Pathways: Map out semester-by-semester graduation plans tailored to your timeline.
- Transfer Planning: Prepare for a seamless transfer to a four-year college or university under MGCC’s guaranteed admissions agreements.
- Student Success Support: Navigate academic challenges, policy questions, and campus resources confidentially.
How to Schedule an Advising Appointment
- Current Students: Log in to myMGCC and open Navigate or SIS to schedule an appointment with your assigned faculty advisor.
- New / Prospective Students: Contact Student Services at (540) 863-2820 or email admissions@mgcc.edu to meet with an admissions advisor.
2. High School Career Coaching (For Area High Schoolers)
MGCC partners with local public school divisions to place dedicated Career Coaches directly in area high schools. Career Coaches help high school students explore career options, discover college majors, and prepare for life after graduation.
Services Provided in High Schools:
- Career Exploration & Assessments: Individual and group assessments based on national career clusters, job shadowing, and industry connections.
- College & Career Planning: Guidance on career-technical programs, community college pathways, and four-year university options.
- Application Assistance: Hands-on help completing college applications and the FAFSA (financial aid).
- Workforce Readiness: Resume and cover letter writing, mock interviews, time management, and professional communication skills.
