Local Board

The Mountain Gateway Community College Local Board is a governing body composed of civic, business, and professional leaders who serve as the representative voice for the college’s service area. Appointed by their local governing bodies to four-year terms (eligible for one additional consecutive four-year term), board members represent seven municipal subdivisions across the region: Alleghany County (2), Rockbridge County (2), the City of Covington (2), Bath County (1), Botetourt County (1), the City of Buena Vista (1), and the City of Lexington (1). Acting as members-at-large charged with advancing the best interests of the entire region, these leaders bring diverse professional perspectives to ensure MGCC remains deeply connected to the communities it serves.

Working within statewide guidelines established by the State Board for Community Colleges, the Local Board provides vital leadership in academic planning, community outreach, and financial oversight. The Board regularly reviews and endorses new academic programs, establishes local citizen advisory committees for specialized curricula, and monitors community service offerings. In addition, the Board approves local fund budgets, auxiliary enterprise expenses, and student fee allocations, while periodically reviewing college audit reports, student conduct regulations, and MGCC's institutional mission to ensure continuous alignment with regional workforce and educational priorities.
