A Partnership Between MGCC and New River Community & Technical College (WV) 

 

 

Through a special agreement called reciprocity, students at MGCC and New River (in West Virginia) can take classes at either school or pay the lower in-state tuition rate. This helps students save money even if they cross the state line for school.

To qualify for this lower tuition rate, you must live in one of the following areas:

Alleghany County 

Greenbrier County 

Bath County 

Mercer County 

Bland County 

Monroe County 

City of Covington 

Pocahontas County 

Craig County 

Summers County 

Giles County 

 

Highland County

Financial Aid Information 

The usual rules for financial aid apply to this program. If you need help paying for college, you can still apply for grants and scholarships just like any other student.

A Career Coach can help you with: 

  • Job Prep: Writing resumes, practicing interviews, and learning "soft skills" like time management and communication. 

  • Planning: Creating a career plan and finding internships or job shadowing opportunities. 

  • College Apps: Helping you apply for college and financial aid. 

While these coaches help everyone, they focus specifically on students who are the first in their family to go to college or those who need extra support.

Educational Talent Search 

This program helps students in grades 7–12 who want to be the first in their family to graduate from a four-year college. The goal is simple: to make sure you finish high school and get into the college of your choice.

Information for Homeschooled Students 

MGCC is a welcoming place for homeschooled students! Generally, you should be at least 16 years old to start. 

To get started, you will need to: 

  1. Provide a copy of your signed homeschooling agreement. 

  1. Complete the online MGCC application. 

  1. Take placement tests in Math and English (unless your SAT or ACT scores are high enough). 

  1. Meet with an advisor to pick your classes.
