Scholarships

The Mountain Gateway Community College Educational Foundation scholarships are made possible through the generous support of private citizens, organizations, and businesses.  The MGCC Educational Foundation awards more than $100,000 in scholarships annually. Awards range from $100 - $5,000.

During the submission period, the application and all subsequent requested collateral must be completed online. You will need your MGCC login credentials to log on to the online application platform. Please be aware that applicants must provide:

  • One letter of recommendation, excluding family members (graduating high school seniors - a current or former instructor is preferred)
  • One essay
  • A short resume including ALL extracurricular activities, community involvement, and/or work history
  • Your most recent official transcript for graduating high school seniors or an unofficial transcript for current MGCC students

In addition, you must have completed your FAFSA for the upcoming academic year, and you must have submitted ALL additional requested information to the Financial Aid Office before the scholarship deadline.

The Roadrunner Promise Program

The Roadrunner Promise Program is available to eligible MGCC students, including high school, continuing, non-traditional, and nursing students. The program helps make college more affordable and may also help cover the cost of books.

To be considered for the Roadrunner Promise Program, students must complete the MGCC Educational Foundation Scholarship Application during the application period, January 1 through February 28. The scholarship application includes a brief description of the Roadrunner Promise Program and a checkbox for students who would like to be considered. A completed FAFSA is required to see if you qualify.

Eligibility is based on FAFSA information, program requirements, and available funding. Students accepted into the program must maintain at least a 2.25 GPA and enroll in a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester. Roadrunner Promise funding is available for up to 15 credit hours per semester, although students may enroll in additional credits if they choose. Students must also complete 8 hours of community service each academic year (4 hours each semester), complete the required SDV course, and live within the College's service area. Additional eligibility requirements may apply.

For more information, feel free to stop by the Educational Foundation Office in Room 152 of Backels Hall. You can also call 540-863-2934 or email foundation@mgcc.edu.
