Tuition Refunds & Financial Aid Disbursements

Mountain Gateway Community College partners with Nelnet Campus Commerce to process financial aid disbursements and tuition refunds electronically. Registering your refund preference ensures you receive your funds as quickly as possible.

1. How to Select Your Refund Preference

All enrolled students are strongly encouraged to set up a refund preference in advance, even if you do not expect a refund. (Unexpected refunds can occur due to dropped classes, canceled courses, or unexpected financial aid)

  1. Log in to myMGCC and select the SIS (Student Information System) tile.
  2. Select the Tuition & Payments tile, then Account Details.
  3. Select Manage Refunds to choose your preferred disbursement method.

2. Disbursement Methods & Timelines

Payment Method Processing Time* Details
Direct Deposit (ACH) (Recommended) 4 – 5 business days Funds are transferred directly into your existing checking or savings account.
Paper Check (Default) 10 – 14 business days Mailed by Nelnet to your current U.S. Postal mailing address on file in SIS.
Credit Card Refund Varies by card issuer If you paid tuition via credit card (through Enterprise), refunds are automatically credited back to the original card used.

*Note: Business days are Monday through Friday. Certain state grants and specialized tuition refunds may take an additional 4–5 business days to process.

3. Frequently Asked Questions

How will I know when my refund has been deposited?

Nelnet Campus Commerce will send an automated email notification to your official MGCC student email account as soon as your refund has been processed.

What happens if I do not select a refund preference?

If you do not register a preference with Nelnet, your refund will automatically default to a paper check mailed to the address on file in SIS. Checks take up to 10–14 business days to arrive.

What if I change or close my bank account?

If your banking information changes, log into myMGCC, then Tuition & Payments, then Manage Refunds to update your account details immediately before the next disbursement cycle.
