Mountain Gateway Community College’s NCCER Pipefitting Program delivers a comprehensive four-level curriculum designed to build precision trade skills in metal piping, valves, and fluid pressure systems. Fully aligned with National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) standards, this program complies with U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Related Technical Instruction (RTI) guidelines for registered apprenticeships.

What You Will Learn
Students progress through four comprehensive levels of technical instruction and hands-on shop fabrication, developing precision pipe layout and installation techniques:
- Piping Safety, Tools & Craft Math: Master OSHA safety standards, trade geometry/math, hand and power tools, and precision measuring devices used in pipe fabrication.
- Blueprints & Isometric Drawings: Interpret structural drawings, piping prints, field sketches, and single-line/isometric drawings to plan piping runs and bill of materials.
- Piping Materials & Joint Preparation: Cut, bevel, thread, and prepare carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and plastic pipe for threaded, socket-weld, flanged, and butt-weld joints.
- Valves, Hangers & Supports: Install, align, and service gate, globe, check, and relief valves, alongside pipe hangers, anchors, and expansion joints.
- System Testing & Advanced Rigging: Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure testing, pipe bending calculations, advanced field alignment, and crane/hoist rigging safety.
